    Nafplio

    Nafplio was the capital city of the Greek nation after the Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire. Nafplio is a historic town, full of monuments and interesting sites and attracts all kinds of people from all over the world. The centre of town is in and around the Old Town of Nafplio where you can see all the different architectural styles, old houses, mosques and other historic buildings give the area a classical atmosphere.     Palamidi Castle

    Palamidi is the most famous castle in Nafplio and it proudly looks over the town. Built in 1687 by the Venetians and later taken by the Ottoman Turks during the 2nd Venetian-Ottoman War. Today the castle is a popular site with visitors all year round, accessible by a 999 step staircase, said to be 1000 until the historical figure Theodoros Kolokotronis broke the first step with his horse. Also accessible by car.

    Acronafplia

    Acronafplia is the town's ancient castle and is dated back to the Mycenaean era. The fort was of great importance until the construction of the Palamidi and was later used as a prison. Due to different occupants and uses many parts of the fort were added later in time.

    Bourtzi Fort

    Bourtzi is a fort in the middle of the Nafplion harbour, probably one of the most photographed spots in the area. Built on a reef it was constructed as a defense measure against sea invaders and connected to the mainland with a chain thus getting the name "Porto di Cadena" (Chain Port). It was later used as to facilitate the executioner at the time.

    Five Brothers Cannons

    Expertly crafted and installed by the Venetians, the Five Brothers, were one of the first lines of defence against attackers coming from the water, along with a chain that ran from the cannons to the Bourtzi fort.

    Arvanitia Walk

    Enjoy a walk under the castle of Acronafplia on your way to the beach of Arvanitia, admire the wonderful view of the Argolic Gulf and continue to the other beaches in Nafplio.

    Arvanitia Beach

    The Arvanitia beach in Nafplio is close to the town centre and is often chosen by locals because of that. It is a pebble beach ideal for relaxing and enjoying the sun.

    Clock Tower

    The Nafplio Clock Tower is located on the hill of Acronafplia and was a gift from Ludwig I, father of King Otto. During the Second World War it was blown up by the Germans because it was blocking a cannon. It was rebuilt in September of 1949.

    Bavarian Lion

    This monument was gifted to Nafplio, created by Christian Siegel and funded by Ludwig I, in honor of the Bavarian soldiers who lost their lives in a typhoid epidemic that struck Nafplio at the time.

    Nafplio Archaeological Museum

    One of the museums in Nafplio is the Archaeological Museum, housed in a beautiful Venetian style building that served as a navy warehouse it is now filled with interesting finds from all over the Argolida, going back as far as the Bronze era.

    "Five Brothers" Cannons

    The "Five Brothers" is a bastion equipped with 5 identical cannons, to protect the city from sea invaders. It is a separate part of the Acronafplia fort and was constructed and during the First Venetian Occupation.
